The beginning

Nothing bad had ever happened in Claw’s little pool.

Nothing much had ever happened in it at all.

Then Grandfather Tide brought stories of a faraway reef where creatures chose their own paths, helped each other, and spent their days doing what they loved.

Claw was afraid to leave. He went anyway.

The book

An adventure children can see. A way of thinking they can grow into.

Under Claw’s adventure are eight universal habits of mind. They help us choose, wait, learn, build, and think independently wherever life asks us to decide what matters.

The road to Freedom Reef

Eight chapters.
Eight choices.

The ideas do not arrive as advice. They arrive as things Claw must do when the easy path looks warm, crowded, shiny, or free.

  1. 01
    The Map of Never

    Ask a better question.

Claw draws every way to never arrive, then crosses each one out.

  2. 02
    Big Silver

    Look at what works.

He leaves the famous wave and watches the small one break cleanly three times.

  3. 03
    The Reef Games

Find what is yours to do.

He loses every race. Then his impossible claw moves the boulder.

  4. 04
    The Sweet Kelp Now

    Choose tomorrow too.

He enjoys one frond, packs the rest, and walks across the Empty Sands.

  5. 05
    The Night Carnival

    Ask what the giver gets.

Warm lights promise everything for free. Claw looks behind the booth.

  6. 06
    The Parade of Shells

    Keep your own shell.

Status is heavy. His cracked shell has room for what matters.

  7. 07
    Ten Knots

Prepare for weather you cannot see.

The sky is blue. Claw ties ten knots anyway.

  8. 08
    The Reef That Wasn’t There

    Grow the place you seek.

One mussel. One coral bud. One day at a time.

At the end of the map

The place Claw was promised is not waiting for him.

What waits is clean water, good rock, one old crab, and the first day of something that does not exist yet.

The first ten pages

Open the book before you decide.

The illustrations move. The words arrive with the scroll. Meet Claw in the smallest tide pool and walk with him to the edge of the sea.

For the grown-up turning the pages

The story is for them.
The questions are for both of you.

These are universal habits for relationships, work, learning, difficult choices, and deciding what is enough.

A Little Freedom is inspired by Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger, whose thinking shows how valuable the same habits can be in investing.

Claw and Snapper live and work together at the reef

How families read it

Eight nights.
One road together.

Read one chapter each evening, for about ten minutes. Stop when Claw stops. Let the question travel into tomorrow.

Each chapter closes with the name of the idea it carried. The story stays whole for the child. The grown-up gets a language for the conversation.

The audiobook is expected in December 2026. The physical landscape edition is planned for 2027.
